Electric car subsidies 2026: what you need to know now
All current subsidy programmes for electric cars in Germany. GHG quota, KfW wallbox funding and regional grants at a glance.
Current subsidies for electric cars
The subsidy landscape for electric cars changed in 2026. While the government’s environmental bonus (Umweltbonus) has ended, there are still attractive ways to save when buying an electric vehicle.
GHG quota: benefit every year
As the keeper of a fully electric vehicle, you can sell your GHG quota (THG-Quote, greenhouse gas reduction quota). This earns you between 250 and 400 euros a year — simply for driving an electric car.
KfW wallbox funding
KfW grants are still available for installing a wallbox at home:
- Up to 900 euros towards a wallbox + installation
- Requirement: electricity from 100% renewable energy
- Can be combined with regional subsidy programmes
Our recommendation: KIA EV6 and Ford Mustang Mach-E

- KIA EV6: From €44,990 — up to 528 km range, 800V fast charging
- Ford Mustang Mach-E: From €46,900 — sporty design, up to 600 km range
